On your next visit to Man Mo temple, stop by for a meal at Nhau, the new vietnamese izakaya at Hollywood Road, by chef Que Vinh Dang. Chef Dang takes the traditional meaning behind Nhau – food to be enjoyed with beer – and adds a more elegant twist, with modern versions of popular Vietnamese ‘Nhau’ and Vietnamese street food that pair well with wines and cocktails. Highlights include the banh mi rice tacos and the roasted cauliflower with caramelised pork koh quet.

Moon Lok

With the opening of the new xiqu centre early this year, comes Chinese restaurant Moon Lok housed on the first floor of the venue. Meaning “Full of Happiness,” Moon Lok is the perfect spot for traditional Chinese cuisine before the xiqu show. With a jade green and white colour palette, arches on the walls and custom-made rattan banquettes, the interior mimics the atmosphere of an airy Chinese garden. Highlights include the signature Peking duck, the baked crab meat, and the sweet sour pork. For quick meals, opt for the dim sum menu featuring both traditional dishes such as hargow and creamy egg custard buns, as well as modern takes such as their pan-fried shredded radish cake with sakura shrimp.

Ignis

Ignis is the new clubbing venue at California Tower with innovative cocktails, a state of the art sound system, immersive lighting and world-class spinning. Before nightfall, the second floor is an elegant restaurant helmed by chef Mark Sin, serving modern European cuisine. Highlights include the lamb loin, grilled octopus and morels with king mushrooms, all stunningly presented. While the menu is still being finalised, some of the innovative cocktails, from wasabi-based drinks to naturally fermented rum, are not to be missed.

Mr Brown

Stylish smokehouse Mr Brown is bringing barbecue to Ship Street this spring. Based on southern slang, Mr Brown refers to the smoky dark meat found in the outer layers of barbecued pork shoulder. Head chef Ashr Goldstein takes inspiration from his hometown of Tel Aviv and his experience cooking with woodfire in Australia. Highlights includes 14-hour brisket, lamb neck and half-smoked duck.
