At the 98th Academy Awards, history wasn’t just made — it was felt, as moments of representation lit up the stage with joy and urgency.

Sinners won four awards from a record-breaking 16 nominations. Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor, making him the sixth black actor to win the award. The film’s cinematographer, Autumn Durald Arkapaw, invited every woman in the room to stand up during her history-making acceptance speech as the first woman to win in this category. “I don’t get here without you guys,” Arkapaw said.

The wildly popular KPop Demon Hunters won Best Animated Feature, and “Golden” made history as the first K-pop song to win in the Best Original Score category. The “Golden” performance was imbued with epic Korean elements, ranging from traditional costumes to drums. During their performance, everyone in the crowd was pumping their lightsticks in the air, jamming to the triumphant track.

One Battle After Another won the most awards at the 2026 Oscars, taking home an impressive 6 awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Cassandra Kulukundis won the inaugural Oscar for Best Casting, the Academy’s first new category in 25 years.

To no one’s surprise, Jessie Buckley made a clean sweep of the Best Actress award after winning the BAFTA, SAG, Golden Globe, and Critics’ Choice Awards for her devastating performance as Agnes in Hamnet. “I would like to dedicate this to the beautiful chaos of a mother’s heart,” Buckley said in her tear-jerking acceptance speech.

On the red carpet, a visual feast of Chanel glamour. Teyana Taylor wore a black and white Chanel couture feathered gown, while Jessie Buckley glowed in a pink and red gown with an off-the-shoulder wrap neckline that channelled Grace Kelly’s Edith Head dress at the 1956 Oscars.

Princess silhouettes stole hearts as well: Chase Infiniti in soft lilac Louis Vuitton, and Mia Goth in fresh and airy Dior white. Elle Fanning’s Givenchy gown by Sarah Burton was an homage to her childhood home that blossomed with wisteria. The motif of the family home also ties directly to the film she was nominated for, Sentimental Value, which took home Best International Feature.
