Nicky Zimmermann’s muse for Autumn/Winter 2019 was a female spy named Nancy Wake, a World War II French Resistance fighter who was known as the “White Mouse” for being so difficult to catch. Translated on the runway, Zimmermann’s female spy isn’t so hard to spot with her film noir glamour.

The collection was ripe with classic spy motifs: femme fatale coifs topped with leather berets, trench coats paired with neck scarves, and a few pilot flight suits done up in leather. But despite the cloak-and-dagger theme, the Aussie label’s romanticism was profuse in its cascading panels of floral and leopard print. Perhaps most notable was the billowing lilac silk chiffon dress, which featured polka dot tulle balloon sleeves and intricate lace trims. And the rest of the showing was a buffet of the most feminine embellishments. Corsets, ruffles, princess bows and exquisite layers of sheer lace totaling 37 looks, which will be making their way into every It-girl’s new season wardrobe.
