Matt Hui unveils debut collection
Hong Kong-based designer Matt Hui has debuted his eponymous label with a trans-seasonal collection titled “The Second Dawn”. Created in one-size-for-all silhouettes, designs are deeply rooted in Hui’s fascination with human connection and brim with thoughtful details inspired by his youth.
Employing vertical stripes as a motif throughout the collection, wardrobe staples like T-shirts and button-down shirts showcase proportion play to encourage multiple ways of wearing, and inventive pattern cutting that recalls Hui’s childhood drawings as a reminder to “put our hands up” more. Elsewhere, textured knits and accessories like bow-tie scarves and chunky beanies brim with nostalgia, echoing memories of a mother’s handknit or innocent school days.
