Do you remember what it felt like to truly have the best of both worlds, tuning in each week to watch Hannah Montana and seeing Miley Cyrus seamlessly slip between pop star and teen life for nearly five unforgettable years? Consider this your invitation to relive it. Cyrus is set to return to the screen for The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special — and whether you grew up with the series or are currently experiencing secondhand nostalgia, here’s everything you need to know before watching.

Where can I watch The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special?

The hour-long special will debut on Disney+ on March 24, 2026 — exactly two decades after the original series first lit up Disney Channel screens worldwide. Back then, watching meant commitment: a precise time, a specific date, no second chances. Two decades on, its cultural pull hasn’t waned — more than half a billion hours of the show have been streamed in just this decade alone.

Ooh-whoa-ooh-whoa-ooh-ooh-whoa…consider it a full-circle moment. The special will showcase a trove of never-before-seen footage, along with an intimate, in-depth interview with Miley Cyrus in front of a live audience. Iconic sets make their return, too, from the Stewart family living room to Hannah’s unforgettable rotating closet — pure wish-fulfilment for longtime fans.

Superfan-turned-host Alex Cooper played a surprising role behind the scenes, even advising Cryus on which moments to leave in the past. Musically, the nostalgia runs deep: classics like “Best of Both Worlds” — which Cyrus hasn’t performed since 2008 — and “The Climb”, first introduced in Hannah Montana: The Movie, are set to reappear. And in true Cyrus fashion, she’s not just revisiting the past — she’s teasing a brand-new original track.

The trailer, released March 17, offers a cinematic glimpse of what’s to come: Cyrus toward the reunion stage in a black convertible, clad in an all-black ensemble, oversized sunglasses, and signature gold belts. A Hannah wig completes the look—a playful nod to the past—even as Cyrus has recently returned to blonde. Her message? Simple, and perfectly on brand: “Good to be home.”

Starring Miley Cyrus as herself and hosted by Call Her Daddy’s Alex Cooper, the special leans into both spectacle and self-awareness. Rumours are already swirling about the return of fan-favourite Selena Gomez, who once played Mikayla — the jealous pop star rival to Hannah. Meanwhile, Jason Earles, beloved as Miley’s on-screen brother Jackson, has been fanning the flames of nostalgia with the launch of Best of Both Worlds: The Official, Unofficial Hannah Montana Podcast, where he revisits standout episodes from the series.

Elsewhere, familiar faces continue to tease what’s to come. Cody Linley, who portrayed Jake Ryan – Miley’s endlessly on-again, off-again love interest – has hinted at surprises, coyly noting he “can’t really say anything right now” and urging fans to “keep your eyes open”. And in a moment that feels almost too perfectly scripted, Billy Ray Cyrus – both Miley’s on-screen dad and her real-life father – will reunite with her for the special. The pair has already been spotted hip-bumping in a replica of the Stewart family living room. Though she never appeared in the original series, Miley’s mother, Tish Cyrus, is also set to make a cameo in the special.

Miley Cyrus manifested The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special into existence

P.S.: Nostalgia aside, there’s a delicious twist to this revival story: Miley Cyrus herself admitted she initially “manifested” the special into existence, boldly promoting it before it was ever approved. “I learned this terrible habit — but I actually think it was good advice — from Dolly,” she said, referring to Dolly Parton, her godmother.  “She told me that if you want something to happen, promote it before it exists. Then no one can say no.”  So I just started promoting a ‘Hannah Montana’ 20th-anniversary special that literally did not exist.”  The gamble paid off — what began as a whisper of an idea only truly came into life in January of this year.
