Mun Ka Young is quickly becoming one of the most influential actresses of her generation. Rising to stardom with her leading role in “True Beauty,” Ka Young has continued to captivate audiences with her nuanced and powerful performances in various successful Korean dramas. With a flair for elegant style, a talent for acting, and a knack for languages, Ka Young is one to watch. Recognising her impact, Dolce & Gabbana proudly appointed her as their newest global ambassador, as she embodies the brand’s bold and sophisticated style. She recently attended the opening of Dolce&Gabbana Beauty’s boutique in Tsim Sha Tsui, where she shared her beauty insights with Vogue Hong Kong.

What connection do you find between fashion, beauty, and perfumes? If you had to choose only one of the three, which would it be?

 I see fashion, beauty, and perfumes as mediums for self-expression. I’m a bit of a perfume enthusiast, and many of my fans might know this already. So, if I had to pick, I’d go for perfume — spraying it on adds the finishing touch to my look. 

What types of fragrances do you typically go for? 

I am a big fan of perfumes and have a collection of over 100 bottles at home. Generally, I lean towards woody and musky scents, whereas floral fragrances are not my cup of tea.

What’s your go-to style and makeup look for everyday wear? 

My style and makeup choices really depend on my mood and the weather. If I’m just running errands, you’ll usually find me in comfortable athletic wear. But if I feel like dressing up, I’ll put in the effort to glam up. Since I often wear a full face of makeup on set, I try to keep things minimal when I’m off-duty.

Now that you’re in  Hong Kong, what fashion look do you think matches the city?

In South Korea, we tend to lean towards darker tones like black and grey, favouring a monochromatic palette. However, Hong Kong is a vibrant and dynamic city, which inspires me to go for brighter and more colourful looks. I am someone who loves to experiment with different styles, and I am always open to trying out new looks.

Do you have any wellness and beauty tips? Can you also share your makeup and fitness routine?

I exercise 3 to 4 times a week. I do pilates, run near my home, and hit the gym. Starting my day with a warm glass of water is also a must for me. And if I have a shoot coming up, I’ll apply a lip mask the night before to make my lipstick stand out even more the next day.

What surprises do you anticipate the upcoming Dolce&Gabbana Beauty line will bring?

I especially love the heart logo that adorns the Devotion collection. Whether it’s on handbags or cosmetics, this heart shape catches my eye. The brand offers a variety of lipsticks in beautiful shades, so it’s hard for me to pick just one!

You have shared that you enjoy applying lip masks before filming and experimenting with different lipstick colours. Besides fragrance, how important is lip makeup to you?

Lip makeup and lip care are essential to my beauty routine. You’ll find me with two or three lip balms tucked away in my handbag whenever I’m out. I also make sure to apply a generous layer before bed. Even on days when I am not wearing makeup, lip balm is a non-negotiable for me.

What lip colour best represents your personality?

In my early twenties, I loved wearing bright red lipstick, but as I have gotten older, my style has become more mature. That’s why I love the Devotion Liquid Mousse Lipstick in shade 200 — it is a beautiful nude colour that pairs well with any makeup look.
