As of April 2021, BTS became the most followed group on Instagram. While they boasted a whopping 40,220,226 followers at the time, the number has now risen to a staggering total of over 57 million, but that’s not all. On December 6, 2021, all seven members of the South Korean boyband — RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook — fulfilled the wishes of their millions-strong fan base, the BTS Army, by each launching their own Instagram accounts after announcing their winter hiatus as a group.

In just a mere 43 minutes, V beat fellow K-pop star Taeil Moon of NCT to become the fastest person to reach one million followers on his account @thv, and claimed the same title for 10 million Instagram followers when he hit the number in 4 hours and 52 minutes according to Guinness World Records. Now, all seven members have amassed over 20 million followers on the social media platform.

Most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours and most viewed Youtube premiere

On August 22, 2020, BTS debuted their first ever English single “Dynamite” with a bang (quite literally), and added the accolade of the most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours under their belt with 101,100,000 views. Almost a year later, the group broke their own record with the music video of their second English single “Butter”, which amassed 108,200,000 views within the first 24 hours of its release. Over 3.9 million eyes were on the premiere of “Butter”’s music video alone, which also made it the most viewed Youtube premiere.

Most retweeted user and most retweeted tweet on Twitter

Given the records they’ve set on Instagram and Youtube with their loyal fanbase, these Twitter titles come as no surprise. The social media platform has also revealed #BTS to be the top Twitter hashtag of 2021.

Longest standing No.1 act on Billboard Social 50

Ever since they entered and topped the chart on July 29, 2017, BTS has never left first place on Billboard’s Social 50, making them the first act to rank and stay first for 210 weeks (and counting) in the chart’s decade-long history.

First K-pop group to reach No. 1 on Billboard 200

With their third studio album Love Yourself: Tear in 2018, BTS became the first K-pop group to take the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. The album was the first foreign-language release to top the chart since 2006 and the first ever world music album to achieve the achievement, and earned BTS the highest sales for a K-pop group.

First K-pop group to earn a top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100

The lead single of Love Yourself: Tear, “Fake Love”, ranked 10th on the the Billboard Hot 100 on June 2, 2018, which made BTS the first K-pop group to place within the chart’s top ten.

First Asian act to win Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards

At the 49th annual American Music Awards, BTS beat five global pop stars – Ariana Grande, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd – to become the first Asian act to win Artist of the Year. The boy band, who made their U.S. TV debut four years ago at the AMAs with a performance of “DNA”, also took home Favourite Pop Duo or Group and Favourite Pop Song for their second full-English hit “Butter”.

First K-pop group to address the United Nations

On September 24, 2021, BTS made history as the first K-pop group to address the United Nations. At the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the septet took the stage during the launch ceremony of UNICEF’s global partnership Generation Unlimited with a speech delivered by their leader, RM, with South Korea’s first lady Kim Jung-sook in attendance.

On November 1, 2017, BTS joined forces with the Korean Committee for UNICEF affiliated with the United Nations to sponsor the #ENDviolence campaign, a fight against violence towards youth across the globe. The boy band created their own campaign titled Love Myself to raise funds for the cause.

Most daesangs (grand prizes) won at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)

BTS won the most daesangs in MAMA history, with a total of 17 awards won between 2016 and 2021. As of 2021, they’ve swept all four daesangs for three consecutive years.

Most streamed group on Spotify

BTS leads as the most streamed group on Spotify with over 16.3 billion streams, surpassing their latest musical collaborator Coldplay, who currently holds 16.1 billion streams.
