出道超過十年，大眾對徐康俊的印象，多半開始於《奶酪陷阱》裡那個清爽又有點不羈的角色。2013 年，他隨組合 5urprise 以網絡劇《放學後福不福》起步；2016 年憑《奶酪陷阱》被稱作「國民年下」。退伍後，他以《臥底高中》的鄭海成重新站穩，並拿下 MBC 演技大賞。今年又在 Netflix 劇《訂閱男友》化身 Jisoo 的完美學長。九月，KBS 週末劇《不是你的戀愛》（A Love Other Than Yours）開播，他與安恩真飾演從七歲認識、交往十年、正準備把熟悉推進婚姻的南宮浩與李彌都。這是他獲獎之後，第一次以成年人的戀愛難題回到觀眾面前。真實、有共鳴的劇情，加上兼具顏值與演技的角色，讓這部劇很快成為熱門話題。

被問到一個角色從哪裡開始，他說：「每個角色的起點，都在他的過去。一個人的根，是由他出生的環境、所受的影響，以及從很小的時候便開始扎根的價值觀與信念所塑造的。」編劇給的劇本與大綱，不會把整段人生攤開，他要用那些材料去想像、去補上，令角色完整。「演一個三十五歲的角色，能想像並確立的那三十五年裡的時刻愈多，這個人就愈完整。」這些時刻一旦建立起來，角色才能真正說話、行動，並以一個真實的人的身分，在片場與其他人交流。他解釋：「那些沒被寫進劇本、看起來微不足道的時刻——去洗手間、喝水、和朋友喝一杯、躺在床上發呆，或只是覺得無聊——真正把一個人拼起來的，就是這些。」

在某個意義上，這就是一個演員的「技藝」：紀律、直覺，以及把看不見的東西反覆打磨的耐心。方法和工具也很具體：一支筆。「我會把一切用筆寫在紙上。寫、擦、劃掉，有時甚至把整頁揉掉扔掉。然後，把留下來、說服得了自己的想法和筆記，轉進劇本裡。演戲時，那就是我的聖經。」他說，自己所有的思考與角色建立，都來自筆在紙上創造的東西。

我們問到若把至今的演藝道路當成手寫的故事，會認為自己在哪個章節？徐康俊覺得自己才剛寫完序章。「雖然演戲已經超過十年，但我相信重要的不是時間的長度，而是你用什麼填滿了那段時間。我還有很多想展現的，也覺得自己還沒有展現夠。所以我相信：序章，才剛剛寫完。」如果說序章才剛結束，那麼接下來的故事，顯然才正要展開。而對一位穩步建構作品的演員來說，最好的章節，或許永遠在下一頁。
