Amya Wellness

1 / 4

Pilates is booming in Hong Kong, but with new studios cropping up in all corners of the city, what distinguishes one from the other? 2018 Miss Hong Kong First Runner Up and certified pilates coach Amber Tang opens doors to Amya, a new wellness sanctuary located in Causeway Bay. Here, soft light filters in through expansive floor to ceiling windows, illuminating a space that is divided into dedicated areas for reformer and tower reformer pilates, chair and barrel pilates, caformer pilates and Gyrotonic mobility training. Classes are taught by a team of 10 expert bilingual coaches, with offerings ranging 55-minute group lessons to private sessions with a focus on rehabilitation.

But if there’s anything to note, it is that Amya is the exclusive Hong Kong pilates studio partner of Fonv, the premier Korean Pilates equipment brand favoured by Seoul’s elite fitness circles for its sleek, minimalist design and Asian-minded engineering. Throughout the brand’s line of apparatus, ergonomics, spring resistance, and carriage height are all specially calibrated to suit Asian body morphology. In addition to being fully decked out in Fonv equipment, Amya is also the city’s first and only Fonv Pilates Education Centre, authorised to conduct official Fonv Pilates Instructor Certification Courses. So if you’re looking to get whipped into shape like Jennie—or learn how to do that for others—you know where to go.

Pulse Wellness Club

More reminiscent of a vibrant nightclub than a typical workout venue, this space features dynamic, ever-changing neon lighting. The cool, immersive glow enhances focus and heightens the impact of each signature full-body Pulseformer session. The mirrored room is lined with just six sleek Pulseformers, arranged in perfect symmetry for an intense, low-impact, high-resistance workout. I gravitate toward the Full Body PULSEformer class – its deliberate pace and technical sequencing make for a deceptively challenging workout, with the tell-tale shake setting in by the final set.

The class schedule spans reformer, mat, and specialised pre- and postnatal sessions. Signature Sculpt emphasises precision and intentional movement, providing personalised instruction and hands-on corrections.

Launched in June 2025, Pilates La Vie specialises exclusively in Reformer Pilates, offering a refined movement experience focused on precision, strength, and elegance. The curated timetable focuses on sculpting with intention, ranging from foundational basic and dynamic Intermediate flows to specialty offerings like Spine Care, Intensive Core, and Booty Builder—a personal favourite. I often return to it for its focus on the lower body through resistance work with heavier weights and fitness circles, creating a slow, controlled burn that lingers long after class.

H-Kore is known for its signature MegaKore workout—a 45-minute, full-body session. While lagree is not technically pilates, you can think of it as pilates on steroids. Using the unique Megaformer machine, lagree combines endurance, cardio, and strength training with pilates’ core elements of flexibility and alignment. It’s a highly intense workout that emphasises slow-twitch muscle fiber activation. In other words, it’ll have your muscles shaking like there’s no tomorrow.

The weekly schedule is structured for steady progression, offering classes from Fundamentals (breaking down foundational movements) to Basics (ideal for newcomers). H-Kore also supports expectant and postnatal clients with dedicated Pre- and Postnatal classes that maintain high intensity while remaining low impact.

Flowga is Hong Kong’s first candlelit yoga studio, offering a sanctuary for hot yoga. It uses state-of-the-art infrared technology to heat its candlelit classes.

While Flowga is the place to be for hot yoga enthusiasts, the candlelit space also offers Sweat n’ Tone – a dynamic Hot Mat Pilates class centered on stability, flexibility, and core control. Expect slow, deliberate sequencing punctuated by moments of intensity, all set beneath the studio’s signature ambient glow. It’s a class I keep coming back to.
