Freespace Jazz Fest
West Kowloon Cultural District’s flagship annual music event kicks off today! Now in its seventh edition Freespace Jazz Fest comprises a blend of ticketed and close to 40 free programmes across the Freespace, Great Lawn, Harbourside West Lawn at Art Park, and Laubak Livehouse. The festival takes place across the span of four days, featuring almost 200 local and international jazz artists from around the globe, as well as pop, experimental and world music acts. The stellar line-up of performers include Hong Kong jazz icon Ted Lo, Marf & Winka of COLLAR, British jazz pianist Joe Webb, rising Thai vocalist mindfreakkk, local experimental band Virgin Vacation and Korean saxophonist and composer Kim Oki. Freespace Jazz Fest also includes an F&B market running alongside the musical acts, where guests can indulge in delicious fare from 15 local dining and retail brands like Dara, Heimat, and The Old Man.

Padel Central
Now this is padel like you’ve never seen before. Presented by UBS and produced by none other than Great Entertainment Group, Padel Central is Hong Kong’s first dedicated premium padel and lifestyle hub of this scale. Set within AIA Vitality Park with stunning views of Victoria Harbour and the Hong Kong Observation Wheel, Padel Central takes place across three fully equipped padel courts and a full-service bar offering cocktails, alcohol-free and low-ABV drinks from ONLY Beverages, and a selection of FINEPRINT coffees and treats. Padel beginners, enthusiasts and pros alike can book in solo for open court play with others, or reserve an entire court session for family and friends. Originally set to run until November 9, the event has now been extended to November 16 due to growing demand.

“The Next Movement” Electronic Tap Dance Theatre
Experience something completely different with the city’s first-ever electronic tap dance theatre, “The Next Movement” presented by STEP OUT Studios. Truly a departure from traditional tap dancing, the performance features dancers in custom-developed “Electronic Tap Shoe” that trigger a dynamic medley of sounds, lighting and visual effects for a wholly immersive theatrical experience. “The Next Movement” adopts the format of a music album, with newly created musical works by renowned producer hirsk and a live band, as well as choreography that traverses various musical styles and transcends traditional tap dance movements.

Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe at Xiqu Centre
Dive into the world of Chinese opera at Xiqu Centre, where three distinctive Kunqu classics by The Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe will take shape over the course of three nights. The Story of the Jade Hairpin kicks off the performances with a boundary-defying romance between a scholar and a nun, followed by a condensed version of the rare comedic Kunqu opera The Outburst of a Shrew, and finally a moving tale of family and hardship called The Daughter of the Horse-trader to conclude the series. These performances feature a thrilling mixed cast of emerging young talents and renowned opera artists like China Theatre Plum Blossom Award winners Li An, Luo Chenxue, and Shen Yili.

The Nutcracker: A Hong Kong Adventure, Hong Kong Ballet

For those unfamiliar, The Nutcracker: A Hong Kong Adventure follows the story of Clara, Fritz and the Nutcracker Prince as they are whisked away on a thrilling festive adventure brimming with dancing dim sum, racing jockeys, Hong Kong peacocks, and extraordinary bauhinia flowers. This year’s production also incorporates surprising new elements for those who may have watched the ballet in the years before.
