With a song titled “High Fashion”, expectations are high for Grammy-nominated pop sensation, Addison Rae. The TikToker-turned-pop star moved to Los Angeles at 19 years old, initially receiving harsh criticism for her lack of personal style. Since then, Addison has reflected on how much she’s grown, even recently dropping “Rae” off her stage name to coincide with her eponymous debut album and the start of a new chapter. This transformation has also extended to her new fun-loving take on high-low styling. The Kentucky native has traded ankle-hugging jeans for fluorescent tights, and Instagram boutique tops for leotards, bringing a decidedly theatrical flair to her outfits.
Her cross-country move is mirrored in her new wardrobe too, which features local L.A. loves from Trashy Lingerie, Alo Yoga, and American Apparel, paired with practical designer pieces. The Prada Nylon bag often accompanies her to Erewhon, while The Row’s Square T-strap flats takes her to pilates. The spirit of liberated, L.A. fluoro-femininity bursts from Addison’s closet. With bold polka dots, jewel-toned tights, statement shoes, playful hairstyles, and plenty of headbands, Addison’s vibrant style shines bright. Often foregoing pants entirely, she leaves fans obsessed with her daring fashion choices.
But clothes are only part of the story. Her posing and dancing serves as her ultimate accessories. The pop star attributes her signature choreography to Texan dancer and bestie, Lexee Smith, who’s been officially appointed Movement Director of Addison’s music videos, including “Diet Pepsi” and “Aquamarine”. Through her style, Addison frequently gives flowers to her inspirations, as seen in her growing collection of past celebrity tributes to icons such as Britney Spears, Bjork, and Madonna.
Addison’s style is both avant-garde and nostalgic—a breath of fresh bubblegum pink air for her Gen Z fans. Whether prancing in tutus or performing with Charlie xcx, one thing is clear: This is Addison’s world and we’re all just living in it.
