這個罷工活動「 Global Climate Strike」 源自於青年組織:今年瑞士 16歲少女格蕾塔·桑伯格 (Greta Thunberg) 為了提升全球環保意識而退學,甚至為喚起大家對人類活動所造成的污染和碳排放問題的關注,在今年八月去紐約參加聯合國論壇時,決定選擇不乘耗油量大的飛機,採用零碳旅行方式,和攝影師、父親以及兩名船員乘坐「馬里茲亞II號」(Malizia II)賽艇,而這艘船由太陽能電池板和水力渦輪機產生電力。
