BACKSTAGE Holas, Amadou and Kris by @sophographylondon The collection has been named after the Spires’ Butterfly Café – a weekly run session which offers a safe space and meeting point for vulnerable women to socialise over food and drink and partake in creative activities to learn and develop skills in arts and crafts, jewellery making, knitting and card making. When speaking to the support workers at Spires they told Bethany that the ‘Butterfly Café’ got its name from the transformative effect the sessions were having on the women’s lives – these themes of growth and transformation are reflected in the collection as well as in today’s beautiful garden location. Bethany will be running mending and embroidery workshops with the Butterfly Café for the next 6 weeks and making a donation for the sales of the collection to Spires. The British fashion designer’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection continues to use up-cycled fabrics from past seasons and is credited as a pioneer within the realm of sustainably-designed fashion. Since joining the Alexander McQueen brand in 1997, Burton has infused a more romantic vision with floral motifs and ample use of chiffon reminiscent of dark fairy tales, and since taking the helm as creative director in 2010, Burton has proved to push the McQueen brand further by designing Kate Middleton’s famous wedding dress in 2011.
