第一次香港電影角逐最佳國際電影
曾國祥執導的《少年的你》代表香港成功入圍奧斯卡最佳國際電影，繼1993年陳凱歌的《霸王別姬》曾入圍奧斯卡最佳外語片，相隔28年由曾國祥帶領下衝擊奧斯卡。這部由周冬雨和易烊千璽領涵主演，並在去年橫掃8個香港電影金像獎獎項，包括最佳電影、最佳導演、最佳女主角、原創電影歌曲、攝影及編劇等。
第一次兩位女導演角逐最佳導演獎項
華裔導演趙婷(Chloe Zhao)執導的《Nomadland》不僅自己入圍最佳導演獎項，其電影更被提名最佳電影、最佳女主角和最佳攝影共四個獎項提名。
還有 Emerald Fennell 首個自編自導的處女作《Promising Young Woman》便成功入圍最佳導演、最佳影片、最佳女主角、最佳原創劇本、最佳剪輯
第一次華裔美國人角逐最佳男主角
Steven Yeun憑藉《Minari》首次獲得奧斯卡提名，並由鄭李爍(Lee Isaac Chung)所執導的親身真實的美國夢故事，講述了在20世紀1980年代的移居美國的韓裔家庭努力地在阿肯色州內經營農場，最終獲得成功。歷史上奧斯卡最佳男主角從未有華裔美國演員被提名，但Steven Yeun 和尹汝貞(Youn Yuh Jung )雙雙打破歷史，作為華裔演員身分被首次分別提名為最佳男主角和最佳女配角。
第一次韓國女演員角逐最佳女配角
深受韓國人歡迎的73歲「國民媽媽」尹汝貞，同樣以《Minari》擠進奧斯卡入圍名單，成為首位韓國入圍奧斯卡的女演員，繼《櫻花戀》日本女星梅木三吉、Shohreh Aghdashloo 、日本女星菊地凜子之後，第四位亞洲女星入圍該獎項的人。
第一次最多元化的人選入圍
繼去年奉俊昊開創的歷史性奪冠之後，亞洲人才的勢力似乎無法讓國際忽視。隨著剛剛提名的入圍名單，也開創了奧斯卡史上最多元化的一次：20個獎項提名中，有9個有色人種，共有70名女性獲得76項提名，同時更有多個華裔演員獲得提名，可見多元化和包容性被奧斯卡這個舞台得到中重視。
