Frieze London is a leading event in the art calendar, and no city hosts it like London. With attendees flying in from around the globe, it’s no surprise that Richard and Patricia Caring, the influential duo behind The Birley Clubs, where a prestigious collection of original artworks adorns the venues, opened their doors for a week of culture and celebration. Guests enjoyed the rare opportunity to explore The Birley Clubs’ exclusive private members’ clubs: Annabel’s, Harry’s Bar, George, and Mark’s Club.
The festivities kicked off with George’s first-ever pop-up at Frieze London, bringing the club’s signature charm beyond Mount Street. The pop-up featured the renowned Main Bar’s blue hues and brass accents alongside a display of David Hockney’s drawings from the club here. Visitors indulged in member-exclusive dishes plus signature Frieze cocktails crafted with Johnnie Walker Blue Label.
The newly reopened Mark’s Club was followed by a cigar tasting by Nick Foulkes and an Icons of Burgundy Wine Dinner. The week culminated in an intimate breakfast talk with Wallace Chan at Annabel’s, leading up to the main event: a spectacular gala dinner…
Richard and Patricia Caring, the renowned hospitality tycoons, know how to throw a party, and this was no exception! Guests included Wallace Chan, Edward Tang, Jonathan Cheung, Han Chong, Veronica Chou, Emily Lam-Ho, Kent Ho, Eliza Ruston Pang, and Christina You attended and were welcomed by a surprise operatic performance by Katherine Jenkins OBE and DJ Mimi Xu for the after party.
The evening was nothing short of spectacular, with distinguished guests flying in from all over the world to witness the unveiling of Wallace Chan’s latest masterpieces, “Fish In Waves” and titanium sculptures “Petals” in an exclusive debut at the one and only Annabel’s.
Richard Caring made his start with a business in Hong Kong and is now the chairman of The Birley Clubs. It was only a matter of time before the Carings hosted a night of extreme glamour celebrating a resident artist during Frieze. Patricia says, “London is the centre of the world, and during Frieze each year, it becomes a melting pot of culture and creativity. We are excited to open our doors and welcome the Asian and international community to explore all our clubs, as each one has its own distinctive style.”
Earlier this year Richard and Patricia had the privilege of welcoming Wallace Chan to Annabel’s and immediately felt a connection to him and his work. “We felt so honoured to welcome a man with such a pure heart and were certain that this would be the right moment to collaborate.”
This year also marks several significant milestones for the couple: Harry’s Bar is celebrating its 45th anniversary, Mark’s Club has undergone an extensive renovation here, and George is marking its first year since reopening. Richard and Patricia Caring are proving that there is no limit to their vision for the future of London’s luxury scene. As Frieze London continues to shine as one of the world’s premier art events, the Carings and The Birley Clubs remain at the heart of the city’s social and cultural landscape, blending art, hospitality, and glamour in a way only they can.
