Must-visit cultural landmarks.

Definitely the fabric market in Sham Shui Po, the antique market in Lascar Row and the nearby Man Mo temple with its signature incense cones hanging from the ceiling. Tai Kwun is surely the latest must-visit spot in Hong Kong for art and culture lovers. This historical complex is a beautiful mix of heritage and contemporary architecture, with both international and local art performances, interesting designer boutiques and great food. I have a VIVIENNETAM shop there, in the Police Headquarters Block, specially done-up for the culturally rich location. It’s one of a kind.

Favourite restaurants.

My favourite must be China Club on Bank Street with charming old Shanghai décor and amazing contemporary Chinese art work. Its bar area decorated with Revolution art pieces and antiques is one of the best places for night gatherings and I highly recommend their Saturday Dim Sum lunch where they serve many traditional dishes that can’t be found elsewhere nowadays. I like China Tang at Landmark for a business lunch in great ambience – I love the tapestry sofa and Chinese Art Deco, even its beautiful bathroom is worth a visit. Every time I return to Hong Kong, I’ll gather with my family at Lung King Heen at Four Seasons and enjoy their delicious Dim Sum.

A great spot for shopping.

Hollywood Road – you can find old antiques, interesting galleries and so much cultural inspiration.

Where to stay.

There are so many great places to stay in Hong Kong, close to the water and mountains like Clear Water Bay and Sai Kung. I especially like Shek O – a rare gem in this bustling city. The little houses, the beach, the occasional Chinese Opera and other traditional performances. You feel relaxed and rejuvenated in this resort-style village with spectacular natural scenery.

Best place for a nightcap.

Sevva by my talented good friend Bonnae Gokson. They have a magnificent view of Central and I love the great deco, and the fashionable and trendy ambience. It’s the best place for movers and shakers to gather for the night.

Favourite neighbourhood.

The Starstreet Precinct in Wan Chai. It is so unique and cool with a blend of Western Art and Eastern Cultures, including the little restaurants, shops, galleries and furniture stores on Moon Street and Sun Street.

Most mind-blowing view.

I found it and designed a suite there – the award-winning Vivienne Tam Designer Suite, located on the 27th floor of Hotel ICON, Tsim Sha Tsui East. It is one of the best experiences to watch fireworks from there, with its stunning 280-degree panoramic view of Victoria Harbour.

Best gallery or museum.

There are so many interesting galleries in Wong Chuk Hang. But I particularly like the Hong Kong Central Library – it has so many resources, I often find inspiration there for every collection.

Most memorable Hong Kong moment.

Buying more than 50 pairs of antique shoes from the stores at the old Lan Kwai Fong right before I left Hong Kong for New York. I remember wearing them in Hong Kong and the stiletto heels often getting stuck when I boarded the trams. Then I brought them to New York and wore them to the flea markets. Those 50’s and 60’s designs were beautiful and I’m so inspired by the patterns and constructions of the shoes. The joy in me when I wore them was unforgettable, immersing in the classic styles of the golden era.
