Another day, another collaboration for Virgil Abloh. It seems like only yesterday that Ikea announced in March 2018 that it would be joining forces with Louis Vuitton’s menswear creative director. Now exactly a year later, a specially designed piece by the two iconic names has finally landed — on your floor.

Abloh, who has teamed up in the past with brands like Evian, Nike, Rimowa, Ssense and Moët & Chandon, is one of the eight creatives who has designed a limited edition rug for the Swedish multinational furniture group. The capsule collection includes designs by Seulgi Lee, Noah Lyon, Supakitch, Craig Green, Filip Pagowski and the American duo Adam Frezza and Terri Chiao, also known as Chiaozza.

The collection, which showcased for the first time at Art Event 2019, features a line of traditional rugs with unexpected details like bright hues and flashy prints. “It’s pure craftsmanship combined with avant-garde – and street culture combined with modern design,” Ikea explains.

Abloh stated that his inspiration was based on the idea of people who “overprotect” their interior, a notion which manifests as a traditional dark Persian rug with the words “KEEP OFF”.

Fans who can’t get a hold of the rug will get a second chance later this year as Abloh and Ikea will be launching a new home accessories line called MARKERAD. Stay tuned.

The carpets are available from today onwards at all Ikea stores worldwide.
