Off-White’s first show following the death of its founder, Virgil Abloh, was always going to be an emotionally charged moment for the history books. What went down on the opening night of Paris Fashion Week was a tribute to the man who truly changed the fashion world and the people within it. The casting was testament to the number of people who admired him and the lives he touched.

Leading the model charge was close friend Naomi Campbell, who also walked in the creative director’s final Louis Vuitton show in January. Fellow supers Amber Valletta and Helena Christensen waved the flag for the old guard who have seen the changes Abloh implemented come into effect, while the designer’s new-age model squad, including the Hadid sisters, Kendall Jenner and Adut Akech, were out in full force to represent the revolutionary creative.

Other surprise guests included Serena Williams, while Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss and Candice Swanepoel lent their seasons of experience to the finale dedicated to truly extra eveningwear with Abloh’s signature knowing twist. Karen Elson did an excellent job flouting the smoking ban, while Cindy Crawford and Kaia Gerber waved the flag for fashion as a family business.

The show was called Spaceship Earth: an Imaginary Experience, but this was a very real reminder of the impact Abloh had, and that his clothes were made to make a statement – and to have fun in.
