Plaid is a forever pattern. Season after season it has proven that it’s storied enough to hold its own, and versatile enough to channel multiple personalities. This spring, plaids—alongside its sisters ginghams and checks—have bloomed across numerous collections as designers continue to explore new ways to wear (and love!) it.

At Miu Miu, preppy personas assumed a stance of irreverence as ‘70s-esque plaid polo shirts were layered and clashed, while Sandy Liang dreamed up a picnic-perfect gingham print for the girls. We also watched as Matthieu Blazy took the everyday lumberjack flannel and gave it shoulders and a structured silhouette for the Bottega Veneta spring 2025 runwayAnd lest we forget, Asics’ latest shoe collaboration with independent label Story mfg. that sent sneaker enthusiasts into a frenzy. Both colourways pretty much sold out within mere days of their global release and it’s a loss I’m personally still mourning.

Now more than ever before, we’re seeing a myriad of fresh and exciting new ways to wear plaid beyond the typical woolly winter scarf or scholarly pleats. Breezy cotton skirts, a sporty Martine Rose track jacket, handmade Jos Mundo wedge sandals and more—here are our favourite plaid pieces of the season.
