After Blokecore, a shrewd mix of ‘90s British pub culture and the style of avid football fans, was manifested last year thanks to the TikTok user, Brandon Huntley. Now is the turn of Brazilcore to establish itself as the leading trend of summer 2023.

Just like Blokecore, the Brazilian aesthetic was first embraced by football fanatics. In places such as Rio de Janeiro, encountering wearers of this trend by the beach is by no means uncommon. The ultimate Brazilcore fit consists of a simple green, yellow and blue T-shirt, a cap, and a pair of Havaianas flip-flops.

Yet, this trend also comes with its controversies. Having been deemed a symbol of anti-corruption, the colours of the flag and the costumes of the national team have been interpreted as representing extreme political protests. Now in 2023, there is a firm intention to depoliticise the Brazilian colours, to revert them back to their original role as the national symbol of Brazil as opposed to a political party.

Celebrities who have already hopped onto the Brazilcore trend include Hailey Bieber, Rosalía, and Tina Kunakey, having respectively shared Instagram posts of themselves effortlessly pulling off the rising aesthetic. In the lead image, Hailey Bieber can be seen wearing a T-shirt that features all of the Brazilian colours, while Spanish star Rosalía flaunted a Misci cap. Elsewhere, French actress Kunakey wore the classic Adidas track jacket with its iconic three stripes.

This season, the yellow and green combo asserts its dominance on the forefront of fashion. Various fashion houses and designers did not hesitate to incorporate the Brazilian hues into catwalk silhouettes. This includes Diesel who, inspired by fashion designer Glenn Martens, proposed a Y2K version of his skirt-belt, as well as Dries Van Noten and Rick Owens who both infused these tertiary colours in effortless looks.

With the possibility of wearing the Brazilian colours from head to toe comes a new pair of yellow and green Knu Skool sneakers from Vans. Chunky and oversized, they are a nod to footwear silhouettes from the ‘90s. Perfect for the summer!
