When Dutch designers Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren sent their voluminous, statement-making gowns (literally) down the Spring 2019 couture runway in January, they created an immediate internet sensation. And with mountains of candy-coloured tulle spelling out phrases like “Sorry I’m late I didn’t want to come,” “Trust me I am a liar,” and “I’m not shy I just don’t like you,” it’s not hard to see why people couldn’t stop posting which dress best exemplified their inner monologue.

the best time to call me is via text

It’s one thing to admire a gown like that from afar, but actually wearing one of the Viktor & Rolf creations IRL is a different story entirely. Until today, only uncanny valley-territory YouTube star Poppy managed to wear one on the red carpet, attending the iHeartMusic awards in Los Angeles last month in the wide, orange piece stitched with a flame-engulfed skull and the words “go to hell” on the front.

Now, though, Dua Lipa’s the latest fearless pop star to try out one of the eye-catching garments. The performer posted a picture in which she is sitting on the floor, creating a full-out puddle of tulle and donning the rainbow puff-sleeved dress from the collection that reads “leave me alone” in small print across the chest. “The best time to call me is via text,” Lipa quipped in the accompanying Instagram caption. Lipa may not want attention, but it’s impossible to look away.
