Charles Melton proudly embraces his Korean heritage

Born in Alaska to an American father, and a Korean mother who emigrated to the U.S. in 1990, Melton spent five years of his youth in Gyeonggi, South Korea as part of a military family. That bicultural upbringing shaped the depth he later brought to his role in May December, a performance that earned him the Breakthrough Actor Award at the Critics Choice Awards. During his acceptance speech, he honoured his roots with a moving tribute to his mother. 

Charles Melton once played as a defensive back at Kansas State University

Before pursuing modelling and acting, Melton was a dedicated athlete who began playing American football in the eighth grade and later competed in the 2009 Kansas all-star game. At Kansas State University, he joined as a preferred walk-on under coach Bill Snyder, playing cornerback and defensive back. Nicknamed “Kamikaze,” he spent two years with the team before leaving at the age of 20 to pursue his career in acting.
