Actor and activist Emma Watson has added a new string to her bow – she now sits on the board of luxury fashion conglomerate, Kering. Watson, a vocal supporter of sustainable fashion and transparent supply chains, brings with her substantial knowledge of ethical practices. She has publicly declared her allegiance to Good On You – a free fashion evaluation app which rates brands according to how sustainable and ethical they are – and even used the tool to help curate the looks for her British Vogue cover shoot in December 2019. “There’s a bigger story to be told about the conditions in which our clothes are made, the resources that have been used and the impact they’ve had on communities,” she later said

Gucci, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta and Alexander McQueen are some of the brands that fall under the umbrella of the world’s second-largest luxury group (LVMH pips Kering to the top spot), and Emma will likely contribute to discussions around the giant’s environmental initiatives. The Good On You app acknowledges Kering for its dedication to sustainability and streamlined practices, and Watson selected some pieces from brands in Kering’s portfolio for her December British Vogue cover shoot.

The busy 30-year-old has also been a UN Goodwill Ambassador since 2014. In her first year, she helped to launch HeForShe, a campaign which strives for gender equality. She has been applauded for her commitment to women’s rights, and the day after she turned 25, she was included in Time’s list of 100 influential people.
