In a city that never slows down, energy is everything. Whether you’re drained by the daily grind or simply feel a shift in your internal compass, how you manage your energy dictates how you show up in the world. As wellness becomes less of a trend and more of a necessity, protecting your “vibe” is essential. Enter Reiki: the Japanese energy-healing practice that serves as a deep reset for your nervous system. By balancing your chakras and clearing emotional blocks, Reiki offers a moment of stillness amidst the Hong Kong hustle.

What exactly is Reiki?

Think of it as a massage for your energy field. Developed by Mikao Usui in 1920s Japan, Reiki is a non-invasive practice in which practitioners use a gentle, hands-on or just-above-the-body technique to channel life force energy. Rather than manipulating muscles, their palms hover or rest lightly at key points, allowing energy to flow where it’s needed most. Sessions typically last between 60 and 90 minutes, fostering profound relaxation, strengthening immunity and alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Earlier this year, after feeling depleted from 2025’s challenges, I booked a Reiki session with Dino Hira at Central Wellness. Even before I sat down, Hira picked up on my low vibration, explaining that it stemmed from giving too much of myself to people who did not reciprocate my energy.

As I lay down, his hands hovered just above my body, working through gentle touch and breathwork. The sensation was subtle yet profound: warmth spreading across my chest, my breath becoming lighter, tension I didn’t know I was carrying melting away. Through guided visualisation, I met my younger self, confronting old burdens and letting forgiveness soften ancient grievances. Tears came without warning, but they felt cleansing — stagnant energy finally moving. He noted how I instinctively seek nature and air when overwhelmed – typical of my star sign, Libra – but more importantly, my way of grounding myself and finding clarity. By the session’s end, that low vibration had shifted completely. My body felt lighter, my intuition sharper. I was at peace.
