Monochromatic makeup, also known as “one-tone makeup” in South Korea, has been a growing beauty trend on Instagram. The idea is simple: stick to one colour, such as fiery red eyes, lips and blush. Here are three reasons why we think you should jump on this trend asap…

1. Transform your look with little time or effort

Anyone can pull this one off anytime, anywhere, and with just one item. And if we had to choose one must-have item for this trend, it’d be Glossier’s “Cloud Paint”. Dab a bit on your cheeks first, then tap the leftovers onto your lips for a quick and natural look.

2. As long as it’s your colour, it just works.

You don’t have to spend too much time thinking about which colour goes with what, when you’ve really just got one option. You can keep it simple and straightforward like makeup artist Kale Teter did on model Anja Leuenberger (as seen above). Teter’s lips are filled with a dusty rose colour and then just a touch of the exact same shade is used on her cheeks and eyeshadow.

3. You take more risks by giving bold colours a chance

By sticking to one colour, you can experiment with a bold colour without the risk of the look being overwhelming.
