Small changes can make a big difference, starting with the newly launched Zero2 app by Hong Kong engineering tech company Negawatt. Designed to encourage green-living through gamification, Zero2 teamed up with Female Entrepreneurs Worldwide (FEW) for a ten-week “Go Zero” competition that saw some of the city’s most esteemed female movers and shakers get involved.

The rules were simple: complete as many daily carbon reduction “missions” on the app as possible. From donating unwanted clothing for recycling and walking 10,000 steps, to going lid-free on your coffees and having utility bills that perform well against the government’s Climate Action Plan 2050 target, each job well done was rewarded with Zero2 coins and positive energy points. 

Concluding last Friday on December 22nd, the competition looked at the total carbon emissions saved and positive energy points earned by each participant, as well as the number of friend of referrals they made. In the giving spirit of Christmas, an exceptionally generous host of prizes for the top five winners included personal consultations with award-winning designer Alan Chan and FEW mentor Jennifer Chan, a personal training session with OnePT, and a shopping voucher from pre-loved designer warehouse HULA to name a few, while the top scorer received a grand prize valued at HK$45,000. 

Realistic and attainable, each of Zero2’s “missions” lay out the groundwork for more sustainable lifestyle choices and a community that is truly invested in a better future. A “Go Zero” networking event was also held at the FEW Live Stream Studio last month, where green queens gathered in celebration of their shared values, the exciting environmental opportunities Zero2 brings to the table, and the brighter, net zero days ahead.
