Leave it to Lady Gaga to curate a coronavirus benefit concert with an all-star line-up – think Taylor Swift, Céline Dion, Lizzo, Paul McCartney, Billie Eilish and Elton John – of artists whose performances will be beamed from their own homes. That’s right, in a bid to keep our spirits up as we all help to slow the spread of Covid-19 by staying indoors, the singer has teamed up with Global Citizen to live-stream the One World: Together At Home concert. The virtual gig is designed as a show of solidarity with the World Health Organisation and healthcare workers currently on the frontline.

The Oscar-winning singer, who has already helped to raise $35 million (£28 million) for the WHO, will live-stream the gig on 19 April (HKT). Hosted by US talk show hosts Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert, other celebrities expected to make an appearance include David Beckham, Idris and Sabrina Elba, Kerry Washington and Priyanka Chopra.

The concert is not a fundraising event, instead Gaga wants to focus on delivering a message of solidarity through entertainment. “We are all so very grateful to all of the healthcare professionals across the country and around the world,” she said. “What you are doing is putting yourself in harm’s way to help the world, and we all salute you.”

However, the multi award-winning musician has urged philanthropists and businesses to donate to the Covid-19 response fund ahead of the event. “It has been an honour to help with this huge broadcast event, where we need to tell the stories and celebrate the front line community, healthcare workers and their acts of kindness. We celebrate and highlight the singular, kind global community that is arising right now. We want to celebrate and encourage the power of the human spirit.” Mark your calendars.
