On June 18, fine art and music entertainment will collide under Mandopop legend Jay Chou’s curatorial vision. This will be the first instalment of Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated: Asia auction series.

Over 50 pieces of artwork will go on sale including Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Untitled from 1985, Pablo Picasso’s Buste d’Homme, and iconic pop art pieces from Andy Warhol. An antique ornate piano that featured in the movie Secret (2007) starring Jay Chou and three sets of bespoke concert costumes worn by Jay during his seventh The Invincible world tour will also be on display at K11 MUSEA and K11 ATELIER until June 18.

“Jay often incorporates works from his art collection into his music videos, engineering compelling convergences of art, music, and entertainment.” says Yuki Terase, Head of Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s.“The collaboration between Sotheby’s and Jay presents an unprecedented coming together, celebrating the best of both worlds.”

The live auction follows an initial preview of the highly anticipated sale, held last week at K11 Atelier. Viewers of the auction preview were invited to step out of traditional exhibition parameters and into an immersive and unconventional environment.

Likening his role as a curator to that of a magician, Chou expressed his desire to bring audiences back to the time period each art piece was created. Chou explains: “Audiences will not just be looking at the paintings but experiencing them as part of their space and time. I hope this collaboration will leave everyone with different ways of understanding and appreciating the art that surrounds us every day.”

The evening sale will take place on June 18 at Sotheby’s Hong Kong Gallery and will be livestreamed.  An online Day Sale will also run until June 22 on sothebys.com/jaychou.
