ESCENE’s story reads like a K-pop fairytale. Debuting in March 2024 from the tiny independent label The Muse Entertainment—a company famously started with just 10 million won—the five-member group initially struggled to find their footing. When they released “Love Attack” in August 2024, it went largely unnoticed, leaving them to watch from the sidelines as industry giants dominated the charts.

Then July 2026 happened. Nearly two years after its release, a raw, unpolished “Geoje Yaho” meme on member Woni’s personal YouTube channel caught lightning in a bottle. The video went massively viral, sparking an organic 2,019% explosion in streams that triggered a legendary chart reversal. Week by week, “Love Attack” crept past big-agency powerhouses like aespa, ILLIT, and CORTIS, ultimately seizing the number one spot on the Melon Top 100 on July 8, 2026, a miracle nobody saw coming. Call it a Cinderella moment, call it a historic reverse run — but RESCENE’s against-all-odds ascent from an underfunded startup to the top of the music world has truly rewritten the rules of K-pop success. Here’s everything you need to know about the members behind the miracle and how they pulled off the impossible.

Who are the members of RESCENE?

Woni

Woni is the leader of RESCENE and the driving force of the group. Her journey first began in the city of Geoje (yes, THAT Geoje from “Geoje~ Yaho~!”) where she dreamed of becoming a K-pop idol. In her quest to achieve that dream, she would travel to Busan for training before finally moving to Seoul and debuting as the first idol from Geoje.

Minami

Minami is RESCENE’s spark — bold, expressive, and unmistakably herself. A Japanese powerhouse with a voice like honey and a flair for performance, she rose with a Gyaru persona that quickly turned heads, especially after going viral in South Korea with the “Geoje~ Yaho~!” moment.

Zena

RESCENE’s Zena is the visual Center and maknae (youngest member). Born in Gyeongju and nicknamed the “Shilla Princess,” she shot into attention through viral satoori dialect videos on Woni’s YouTube channel.

Liv

Liv, the visual anchor of RESCENE, is the kind of performer who looks styled even when she’s simply existing. Born in Suwon, she brings a calm confidence and an instinct for capturing moments — she’s the member who can make a photo feel like a campaign still.

May

May is RESCENE’s sweetest secret weapon, and she’s always there to make the room feel lighter. At first she may seem reserved, but once she’s comfortable, she becomes the kind of person who not afraid to command a room.

How Did RESCENE Become So Popular?

The video that started it all: “My Driving Instructor”

On August 15, 2025, a video titled “Can someone give me driving lessons?” was uploaded to the YouTube channel 스튜디오ㅋㅇㅋ, run by Korean comedians who post variety content. Enter Lee Seon-min and Yoo Yeong-u, both established comedians in the Korean entertainment industry. Together, they launched the series “My Driving Instructor”, documenting RESCENE leader Woni’s journey to obtaining her driver’s license.

The videos struck gold in Korea. Why? Woni’s personality was magnetic, and netizens fell for her refreshingly down-to-earth charm. In a sea of curated K-pop personas, she felt real. But what truly sent the videos viral was the comedy gold between the trio—the seasoned comedians genuinely terrified by Woni’s driving, creating an unexpectedly hilarious dynamic. Netizens couldn’t get enough of the two “uncles” and their lovable “niece,” marking the beginning of RESCENE’s rise to stardom.

Woni starts her own YouTube channel

After the success of the “My Driving Instructor” series, its producers partnered with The Muse Entertainment to launch Woni’s own channel called helloiamwoninicetomeetyou. The momentum was already there, and they capitalised on that opportunity.

The viral “Geoje~ Yaho~!” moment

Japanese member Minami came onto Woni’s channel to make a video about the “gyaru” aesthetic. This style is often characterised by over-the-top makeup, tanned skin, and a flamboyant personality. This chaotic duo transformed into the gyaru characters, and a viral clip of Minami saying “Geoje~ Yaho~!” (Geoje: the city where Woni is from; Yaho: a playful informal greeting in Japan) spread like wildfire across Korean social media platforms. Even BTS’s Jungkook and Taehyung referenced this moment in their concerts.

RESCENE become the ambassadors for the city of Geoje

After the viral video, Woni and Minami set off on a trip to Geoje. Within a day, it garners over 1.5 million views. Netizens were hooked, and the video showcased the kind-hearted nature of the people of Geoje. All of this generated incredible publicity for the city, and on May 22, 2026, the city of Geoje officially appointed all five RESCENE members as public relations ambassadors.

Hit after hit – “I tried speaking only in dialect all day long”

For a while, it seemed like only members Woni and Minami were getting traction online. But then, RESCENE’s maknae (youngest member) was brought on to do a video about the different dialects in Korea. In the K-pop industry, idols are rarely seen speaking in their native dialects. This video resonated deeply with netizens, who fell in love with the group’s willingness to embrace their authentic selves.

“We are also RESCENE”

Of the 5-member group, May and Liv had yet to be featured on the channel, and it seemed like every other member had their own viral moment. The video titled “We are also RESCENE” follows the two members as they go cafe hopping. Although the video was uploaded on Woni’s channel, it only comprised the two girls, giving them their own moment to shine. It was a success! “We are also RESCENE” is now the second most popular video on the channel with 8.7 million views and still climbing.

“Love Attack” climbs the charts

As fans of the channel grew curious about the K-pop group behind all these viral moments, they stumbled upon “Love Attack”. The track was originally released in August 2024, and two years after its release, it slowly began rising up the charts, ultimately landing the number one spot on July 8th.

So what’s next for RESCENE?

Their most recent comeback was a remake digital single of the song “Pretty Girl” by Kara. Fans anxiously waited for the release, and within the first week, it has garnered over 17 million views, cementing RESCENE’s status as ome of Korea’s most promising rising stars.
