Zara Larsson has recently emerged as pop’s reigning party girl. Whether she’s basking in the midnight sun wearing iridescent eyeshadow and blush, or dancing to “Lush Life” on stage with a fan, you know she’s having fun doing it. But Larsson’s overnight success story? Not so overnight. Here are 7 things you need to know about Zara Larsson.
Zara Larsson is Swedish

Like many talented singers and producers, Larsson is from Sweden. She was born and raised in Stockholm, and attended the Royal Swedish Ballet School before transferring to an art school. Even as a kid, Larsson dreamt big. In an interview with a Swedish radio station, she said she had wanted to become “immortal,” like Elvis Presley — something she knew in her heart at the age of five.
Zara Larsson was already famous at 10 years old
You could say Larsson was born to be a star. At the age of 10, she went on the 2008 season of Talang, the Swedish version of Got Talent and won. In the finals, Larsson sang “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion, which was later released as her debut single. Talk about pipes!
Zara Larsson officially kickstarted her career at age 15
After Larsson won Talang, she tried signing with record labels, but didn’t have any luck because of her age. In 2012, she finally signed with TEN Music Group at 15 and started recording music. Larsson released several projects, including two EPs in 2013 and her debut album in 2015. While Larsson hadn’t broken into the global stage yet, songs from those early projects were already topping charts in Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
Zara Larsson’s big break came with her second album, So Good
But it didn’t take long for people around the world to notice Larsson’s talents. She released “Lush Life” in the summer of 2015, which became one of the hottest summer anthems of that year. Larsson then kept on releasing hit after hit: “Never Forget You” with MNEK, “Ain’t My Fault” and “I Would Like” all became chart-topping songs. That immaculate string of singles eventually led to her second album, So Good, which officially made Larsson a global star.
Zara Larsson’s favourite singer is Beyoncé

There’s no doubt that Larsson is an exceptional singer. That’s because she takes from her idol, the one and only Beyoncé. Larsson has cited the pop culture icon as her biggest music influence, having listened to Beyoncé’s early albums since she was as young as six. Well, Beyoncé made Larsson’s dreams come true when she asked her to open for her Formation World Tour in 2016. Talent recognises talent.
But Larsson is also inspired by Beyoncé’s bravery in speaking up about political and social issues, especially when it comes to feminism. Larsson said in an interview that Beyoncé is almost an “activist”, and her work ethic inspires her to be vocal about what she believes in.

Larsson actually has a younger sister named Hanna, and they’re both singers. Hanna Larsson was part of a duo called Hanna and Andrea before joining the band Lennix. Larsson dedicated her song “On My Love” with David Guetta to Hanna, and even features Hanna and a home video of them as kids in the music video.

In 2025, Larsson launched her own clothing brand called Main Rose, which features bras, underwear and swimwear. Larsson launched the brand with co-founder Ben Eliass, who wanted to celebrate individual pleasure and sexual wellness. “Everybody wears underwear,” Larsson said to Vogue Scandinavia, “It’s the first layer you put on. And if that just feels a little bit more elevated and fun – at least for me – it makes me want to put on a good outfit and brush my hair and go outside and be nice to people. It sets the tone in a really nice way.”
