Hong Kong-born couturier Robert Wun completely owned the 2026 Met Gala red carpet. Rapidly rising in popularity with his powerfully narrative-driven creations, Wun has been helping stars make unmistakable fashion statements at every occasion, from the red carpet to the tennis court. 

His connection with the Met Gala began in 2023, when he dressed Olympic medalist Eileen Gu in a wine-stained wedding gown. Afterwards, he channelled the chaotic energy he witnessed backstage into the creations of his Fall/Winter 2025 show. 

At this year’s Met Gala—which boasted a “Fashion Is Art” dress code to complement the Costume Institute’s spring 2026 exhibition, “Costume Art”—Wun dressed eight attendees, exceeding many other fashion houses. Wun tells VOGUE Hong Kong that there wasn’t a selection process. Rather, the transition into couture since 2020 has allowed him to connect with more artists. When the 2026 Met Gala came around, many of the artists he had worked with saw it as an opportunity to create something special together. 

“They already knew exactly what they wanted as well,” Wun shares. “The whole process of sketching—I wouldn’t say that it’s easy—but it’s definitely worth it, for sure.” 

On the significance of the Met Gala, Wun says, “It’s purely about art, and the level of the artists and celebrities attending, so I think it’s a whole phenomenon. For people like myself, who used to be a fashion student, you would look up to those moments, you know?”

Not only did he own the red carpet this year, curator Andrew Bolton even added three of Wun’s works to the exhibition’s permanent collection. See below for his otherworldly creations and sketches.

Naomi Osaka

Naomi Osaka arrived at the Met Gala in a dramatic ivory coat and a wide hat that sprouted striped feathers, instantly commanding attention. As she walked up the Met steps, she shed the coat to reveal a crystallised red gown that cut on the curve. Using thousands of faceted Swarovski crystals in four shades of red, Wun shaded and contoured the human anatomy, and left the back of the dress exposed through a laced-up keyhole. The breathtaking gown features over 659,000 stitches of intricate embroidery, totalling over 3,280 hours of handiwork. 

Lisa

Lisa brought the theatrics to the Met Gala by teaming up with Robert Wun. The courtier’s team worked with Lisa to 3D-scan her arms, creating a veiled arrangement inspired by traditional Thai dance positions. A member of the host committee, Lisa glimmered in a figure-hugging sheer gown with a mermaid train. We can all agree that decking the 3D arms in BVLGARI jewellery is a whole other level of fabulousness, right?

Jordan Roth

The 2026 Met Gala marks Robert Wun’s second time working with Jordan Roth. “Jordan is one of the best types of people that you can get to work with, because he himself has a lot to express,” Wun gushes. 

“Every time you get into a conversation with Jordan, he doesn’t tell you what colour he wants. He doesn’t tell you what kind of style he wants. He tells you a story,” Wun continues. “He tells you that he wants to feel like he’s shedding his skin and leaving the past behind him, moving forward into the future, yet embracing it. That’s what he gives you, and he lets you run with it.”

This time, Roth transforms into a living sculpture in a grey velvet dress, complete with a classical sculpture embracing Roth from behind. 

Audrey Nuna

Audrey Nuna was the epitome of cool in a Robert Wun Fall/ Winter 2025 coat and a matching wide-brimmed hat. The white coat boasted stunning sculptural shoulders and 15,000 jet black Swarovski crystals arranged like stains. Nuna’s stylist, Danyul Brown, pictures a “white look under investigation of UV lighting, revealing unknown stain marks from the past”.
