The “glazed donut” beauty phenomenon went viral around 2022, just as Hailey Bieber launched her beauty brand, rhode. Coincidence? I think not. Known for her clear, glass-like skin, Bieber built rhode around that very aesthetic, and it is one that is hard to ignore. Case in point: within its first 11 days of the launch, rhode generated US$10 million in sales, and just three years later, e.l.f. Beauty acquired the brand for US$1 billion. I will happily admit I played a small part in that number.
Still, it goes beyond clever marketing. Bieber genuinely uses the products herself, whether in Vogue’s Beauty Secrets or in behind-the-scenes glimpses of her red carpet routine. Her circle, from friends to influencers and fellow celebrities, seem equally devoted. So what exactly is behind the hype? Developed alongside skincare experts and dermatologists, rhode centres on barrier health, with a focus on ingredients such as peptides and niacinamide. The formulas are cruelty-free, vegan, fragrance-free and dermatologically tested. There is also a refreshing simplicity to the range. It is not about overwhelming routines, but rather a streamlined approach to achieving that signature glazed finish.
Personally, I have tried everything, and there is very little to fault. Some products work better for me than others, but that comes down to my own skin needs rather than the formulas themselves. If I could, I would stockpile boxes of the Peptide Lip Treatment and Glazing Milk without hesitation. They really are that good. But for now, here is my curated edit of favourites and must-buys for anyone looking to achieve that coveted fresh, dewy glow.
glazing milk
A winner of Allure’s Best of Beauty Award in 2024, and granted the Seal of Acceptance from the National Eczema Association, the Glazing Milk is key to achieving that coveted “glazed donut” effect. This ceramide-rich facial essence layers seamlessly into any routine. I find it works particularly well applied before makeup as a primer, or before moisturiser, to enhance a dewy, radiant finish. Formulated with vitamin E, glycerin, a trio of ceramides including NP, AP and EOP, and a mineral complex, it helps to smooth the skin, reinforce the skin’s natural barrier and protect against external stressors.
glazing mist

If you are ever in need of a quick boost or touch-up, the Glazing Mist is an essential. This lightweight, hydrating face mist is infused with magnolia extract, beta-glucan and ectoin to deliver both immediate and long-lasting hydration while helping to smooth the skin. Designed to perform across varying climates, it remains equally effective in both heat and cold, and has been granted the Seal of Acceptance from the National Eczema Association. I often reach for it before a pilates class or just before bed to help lock in moisture and support the skin barrier.
peptide glazing fluid
This gel serum delivers an instant plumping effect, leaving the skin with a luminous, glass-like finish. Infused with peptides, niacinamide, marula oil and glycerin, it works to refine texture, revitalise the complexion and prevent dryness. A signature product behind the glazed, dewy look that Hailey Bieber is known for, it has become a staple in achieving that effortless glow. It is best applied after cleansing and before moisturising, allowing it to fully absorb while enhancing the skin’s hydration and barrier.
peptide lip treatment
It would be almost remiss not to mention the peptide lip treatment, the product that catapulted rhode into the spotlight. This nourishing, glaze-like formula deeply hydrates and replenishes, leaving lips with a luminous, high-shine finish. A recipient of the Allure Best of Beauty Award in 2022, it has quickly become a cult favourite. While the Watermelon slice remains a personal standout, the range offers an array of indulgent scents, from Salted Caramel to Rhode Vanilla and Strawberry Glaze, the latter inspiring the brand’s signature “glazed” aesthetic. The latest limited-edition Caramelized Banana, created in collaboration with Justin Bieber, adds a playful twist to the lineup. With tinted versions and contouring lip shapers also available, it’s a product I find myself returning to time and again.
peptide eye prep
The depuffing eye patches, available in two signature styles, the minimalist “r” icon or the classic rhode logo, are cooling hydrogel eye treatments designed to visibly brighten and reduce the appearance of dark circles. Equal parts functional and fashion-forward, they lend an effortlessly polished feel while the non-slip design makes them ideal for on-the-go use. Infused with caffeine, peptide and sodium PCA, the peptide eye prep works to hydrate and refresh, leaving the under-eye area looking smoother and more luminous. A playful limited-edition iteration, Banana Peel, arrives in collaboration with Justin Bieber, reimagined in his signature shade of purple while retaining the brand’s iconic “r” motif.
pocket blush
Designed with portability in mind, the Pocket Blush is a versatile, on-the-go essential. Its lightweight, non-greasy formula melts seamlessly into the skin, delivering a satiny, diffused flush while subtly hydrating the cheeks. Available in 13 shades, the colour glides on effortlessly and wears beautifully throughout the day. It also doubles as a lip tint, perfect for achieving a sun-kissed, understated glow. I tend to gravitate towards Toasted Teddy for its warm, terracotta-bronze finish, and Sleepy Girl for a soft, mauve-toned, no-makeup look.
All products are available at rhodeskin.com and in Sephora across the UK and US
