’Tis the year to embrace my whimsy. After one full year with a fully developed prefrontal cortex, I must say: this so-called “upgrade” to the human operating system feels wildly overrated. 2025 was all about bowing to the dull pragmatism of adulthood, but 2026? It’s time to let my inner child take the wheel. This means ditching my clear phone case for an enchanting Wildflower x Taylor Giavasis collaboration, because life is too short to pretend minimalism is my aesthetic. Since hearing it on a podcast, the question “Are you a doer, a thinker, or a feeler?” has plagued my mind. To answer, I’m a born feeler and a seasoned overthinker. But I’m looking to change that. Last month I fantasised the birth of my first junk journal, and this month I’m laying down the groundwork with the trusty Traveler’s Notebook. Louise Carmen, who? Sometimes all it really takes to get things going is buying something that looks nice to do it in. Exhibit B: A patterned Nike long-sleeve (with thumbholes!) to motivate me to go on a run. As someone who grew up with blue as my favourite colour, I stare at this month’s wishlist with a twang of guilt in my belly. I used to wear blue like a quiet declaration of rebellion, shunning what the ‘patriarchy’ propounded about the princessy pinks donned by docile girls. But I was 10. What did I know about the patriarchy? Why did I internalise the need to reject my girliness? Girl, why did I make “what’s your favourite colour” such a loaded question…Alas, at 23, I’m unlearning. Repression is far from rebellion—time to allow myself to be.
Trying on the Amina Muaddi lace heeled sandals in Lane Crawford made me feel like Carrie Bradshaw, and I’m sure that diva would support me in splurging on this Chanel tweed jacket to match. When I saw it up close at Hula, it made me appreciate the craftsmanship of tweed jackets tenfold, and I’m mind-boggled that a runway piece (Chanel’s 2020 Métiers D’Art Pre-Fall collection Look 27) is even up for grabs. To finish the look: A pair of lightweight sunglasses from CHIMI, which I haven’t stopped thinking about since trying them on in their Paris store. Also, a swipe of Huda Beauty’s bubble gum coloured lip gloss, because the thought of it scares me, and that’s what we’re going for.
