Halloween costumes have come a long way from the elementary ghouls, witches and cats of the past. With exuberant, full-body transformations, these A-listers have recreated iconic characters with their own unique twists, resulting in outcomes that range from mildly eerie to garishly nightmare-inducing. Regardless of the effect, the outfits possess a certain level of panache that serve to inspire our own efforts as we piece together our looks this Hallow’s Eve.

This summer, Blackpink’s Lisa embraced her Labubu obsession with a custom concert look, and though it wasn’t technically  Halloween get-up, she may already have won costume of the year. There have been a number of notable halloween duos in years past: Barbara Palvin and Dylan Sprouse as Christine and Erik from “The Phantom of the Opera” musical, drag queens Violet Chachki and Gottmilk as “yassified” Squidward and Spongebob Squareapants, and Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker as Lydia Deetz and Beetlejuice. Individually, Sabrina Carpenter recreated the iconic igloo dress from “The Lizzie McGuire Movie”, Ariana Grande was unrecognisable as the Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Blackpink’s Jisoo transformed into Lisa for a night, while Megan Thee Stallion flaunted her inner weeb year after year as Trish Una from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Rabbit Hero Mirko from My Hero Academia. And lest we forget the reigning queen of Halloween, Heidi Klum, with her notorious annual costume party and disconcertingly realistic getups, from Jessica Rabbit to a literal worm.
