Slicked-back hair continued to dominate the fashion week runways for SS20, with its glossy, cool-girl attitude. Wet comb-backs with glistening roots gave an undone appeal at Versace and Christopher Kane, while taut, polished styles secured neatly at the nape (in braids and ponytails) gave a sleek, sculptural finish at Proenza Schouler, Self Portrait, and Gabriela Hearst.

Throwback to the ‘90s! Scruffy top knots, space buns, and twists of all sorts made a nostalgic return on the SS20 runways with spunky teenage spirit. Fendi channeled the Spice Girls with haphazardly thrown up buns, Tom Ford brought underground grunge with spikey crimped up-dos, and Missoni, Nicole Miller, and Giorgio Armani gave us organised chaos with whispy, mini twists teeming with bobby pins and butterfly clips.

Deep side-partings give long hair a stylish slant. There was punkish glamour at Marques Almeida, Marta Jakubowski and Michael Kors, with severe, sweeping lengths that covered part of the face. And princess-y polish at Tory Burch, whose models channeled Diana Spencer with classic hair combs, as well as Ports 1961, whose side-swept bangs gently framed the face.

Unabridged fantasy took to the tops of heads on the SS20 runways with whimsical shape, texture and colour. Moschino channeled Picasso by painting neat chignons with strokes of red, yellow, blue and green; Marni caked hair in thick white paint and topped it off with tall dried flowers; and Tomo Koizumi exhibited extreme cone-shaped hair that reached outlandish heights.
