Colourful liner

I go for simple and light makeup during the hotter months, and a coloured eyeliner is my usual go-to when adding colour without weighing down my makeup. You don’t need any eyeshadow because the coloured liner speaks for itself. You can go as complex or minimal as you want with your design. Simple looks can be just a handful of dots while more intricate designs can mix more shapes and pair together multiple colours.

White eyeliner gets a special shoutout because it’s just not something you see everyday. I feel the simplicity of white calls for elegant curves. Because it stands out on all skin tones, take extra care during application and spend your time getting the shape right.

Duo-tone eyeshadow

Two is always better than one. When I can’t stick to just one colour, I like to go all out with mixing eyeshadow colours for a vibrant “half/half” duo-tone look. Try to choose colours that are either opposite on the colour wheel or right next to each other for a cohesive feel and sense of harmony.

Blush draping

Simple but dramatic, blush draping amps up the drama by taking your standard blush up a notch. My favourite aspect about blush draping is it doesn’t have to be as precise as other techniques; use a heavy hand and see where the colours take you.

You can always mix and match the above 4 techniques to your heart’s content, but I would recommend anyone new to colour to stick to 1 technique per look until you get the hang of things. Don’t know what pigment to start with? Try your favourite colour or challenge yourself by using a colour you’d never think to use (for me, it’d be hot pink).
